What is tank cleaning

Tank cleaning refers to the thorough cleaning of the tank after each batch to prevent contamination and microbiological spoilage. What is cleaning in place and how does it work

Cleaning in Place (CIP) enables cleaning of tanks without dismantling, manual cleaning processes, or man entry.

CIP typically consists of tank cleaning machines installed inside the tanks. The tank cleaning process involves cleaning stages using water and chemicals that circulate through the CIP system to the equipment for thorough cleaning and disinfection.

The CIP equipment proceeds through the entire sequence of cleaning steps without requiring human intervention. Irregularities such as a drop or increase in CIP supply pressure or cleaning nozzle blockage can be monitored through a sensor such as the Alfa Laval Rotacheck.

Pro Tip: Burst cleaning

Burst cleaning means applying the caustic directly to the tank without wetting first. Some or all of the caustic go to the drain (sacrificial caustic) however it is used in small amounts. When the caustic is running clear, the tank is clean and solids have been removed. This method reduces cleaning time and with that production downtime significantly.
