Mining and minerals solutions
Optimise key processes for greater profitability, operational safety and sustainability
Alfa Laval offers specialised solutions for coal and base mineral beneficiation, extraction as well as mineral processing applications with solutions for heating, cooling, waste heat recovery, evaporation, condensation, desalination and zero liquid discharge as well as concentrate and tailings dewatering.
Free white paper: No more tailings dams?
The white paper explores the benefits of centrifuge technology for tailings dewatering. Learn how Alfa Laval has helped mining customers see operational, financial and environmental benefits moving away from tailings storage facilities.
Alfa Laval’s global service network keeps you competitive by minimizing costs and maximizing the return on your equipment investment. With the knowledge, skills and support of our service experts, you can rely on your mining and minerals equipment for as long as you own it.
How it works
Alfa Laval’s solid bowl decanter centrifuges have been specifically developed for large scale, heavy duty solid-liquid separation tasks in the mining and mineral industry.
A Solid Bowl Centrifuge (SBC) consists of a horizontal bowl with a scroll conveyor inside it which is together referred to as the rotating assembly. The assembly spins around its own axis at high speed, thereby generating high centrifugal force that enables separation of tailings solids from the liquid. The separated solids are scrolled out by the conveyor in the form of a dry solids cake whereas the clear liquid (centrate) overflows the weir plates located at the opposite end. Watch the animation to see how it works.
