Contribution to the UN Global Goals
The United Nations has adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, known as Global Goals, that world leaders have pledged to achieve. Cross-sector collaboration between civil society, academia and the business community is key to achieve these goals. Alfa Laval’s business strongly contributes to the achievement of 15 of these Global Goals.

Goal 3 is to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.

Goal 4 is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Alfa Laval is committed to ensure quality education in our own business. Competence development is an essential part of creating a stimulating working environment that empowers employees to grow as professionals. Since we believe every action counts we also supporting charities and volunteering projects related to child education across the globe.
Gender equality
Goal 5 is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
Alfa Laval is an international company with more than 90 nationalities. Diversity and inclusion are key priorities and the aim is that the composition of employees reflect the geographic markets where Alfa Laval operates. Gender equality is an important element of Alfa Laval's diversity work.
Clean water and sanitation
Goal 6 is to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
Alfa Laval offers a wide range of technologies to treat wastewater and generate freshwater. These solutions contribute to improved access to clean and fresh water across the globe.
Affordable and clean energy
Goal 7 is to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.
Alfa Laval products are involved throughout the renewable energy production process, from heating and cooling to mixing and separation.
Decent work and economic growth
Goal 8 is to promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.
Alfa Laval's Business Principles require decent working conditions. Working conditions and safety are a highly prioritized area both in our own operations and in the demands we set on our suppliers.
Industry, innovation and infrastructure
Goal 9 is to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.
Alfa Laval invests heavily in research and development, launches between 30-40 new products per year and has over 3,000 patents.
Sustainable cities and communities
Goal 11 is to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
Alfa Laval provides solutions for energy efficient district heating and cooling – often using waste heat as well as thermal storage solutions.
Responsible consumption and production
Goal 12 is to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
Alfa Laval's ambition is to make every new product more efficient than its predecessor in a life cycle perspective. Many of our products contribute to turning waste into value in different type of production processes.
Climate action
Goal 13 is to take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
Alfa Laval work to minimize climate impact across the value chain, with the goal to reduce carbon emissions with 15% by 2020 compared to 2015. Our diverse products improve energy efficiency which in turn lowers the consumption of fossil fuels and thus reduces carbon emissions.
Life below water
Goal 14 is to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
Alfa Laval offers a whole range of products in the areas of energy and environment which contribute to reducing marine pollution and protecting marine biodiversity.
Life on land
Goal 15 is to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
Alfa Laval provides a cooling solution that protects the world’s largest seed collection to provide a backup if a natural catastrophe, environmental damage or war would deplete the Earth’s crop diversity.
Peace, justice and strong institutions
Goal 16 is to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
Alfa Laval has a zero-tolerance approach to bribery and corruption. Our programme builds on the six steps outlined in the UK Bribery Act and is based on a “prevent, detect and correct” methodology.
Partnerships for the goals
Goal 17 is to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
Alfa Laval has been a signatory of the UN Global Compact since 2011. We actively engage with stakeholders across our entire value chain and at all levels to develop common solutions and create shared value.
